Causes and Solutions for Excessive Vibration and Abnormal Noise of Pumps
Causes & Corresponding Solutions
1. Misalignment between motor shaft and pump shaft
Correct the coaxiality of the motor shaft and pump shaft
2. Corroded or worn impeller and unbalanced rotor
Replace the impeller and conduct precision balance test
3. Friction between impeller and pump casing
Inspect and adjust components to eliminate friction
4. Bent pump shaft
Straighten the pump shaft
5. Loose foundation bolts
Tighten the foundation bolts
6. Cavitation inside the pump
Adjust the outlet valve to keep the pump operating within specified performance range
Note: Real-time monitoring of pump operating conditions is required to guarantee its safe operation. Abnormal vibration and noise are the primary fault characteristics of rotary pump machinery, and their vibration signals reflect equipment fault information in amplitude domain, frequency domain and time domain. Therefore, vibration measuring devices must be deployed to conduct real-time monitoring on pumps and matching motors.
Our company’s integrated vibration transmitter model SK-B-5 or piezoelectric integrated vibration sensor PAS1120 can be adopted for such monitoring.
